WRITTEN EXERCISES

INTRODUCTION

The following written exercises, to be completed individually, have been designed to allow us to practise how we will manage a patient who has interrupted their TB treatment. We will use the table from the desk guide to help us.

For each exercise, read the information about the patient and look at the TB treatment card before answering the following questions for each patient in your notebook.

  1. In which category was the patient registered?
  2. What was the length of his treatment before interruption?
  3. What was the length of interruption?
  4. How would you manage the patient at the diagnostic centre?

WRITTEN EXERCISE 1 - Mr Nii Quarshie

Today is December 4th 2001. Mr Nii Quarshie is a registered TB patient, who has been traced after interrupting treatment. He has been sent to the health centre for assessment.

WRITTEN EXERCISE 2 - Ms. Emelia Kyeremeh

Today is January 10, 2002. Ms. Emelia Kyeremeh,a registered TB patient, has been sent to the health centre for assessment after treatment interruption. Smear results for Ms. Emelia Kyeremeh were found to be positive.

WRITTEN EXERCISE 3 - Mr.Solomon Ashitey

Today is December 18, 2002. Mr.Solomon Ashitey is a registered TB patient, who has been sent to the diagnostic centre for assessment after interruption. Smear results for Mr.Solomon Ashitey were found to be smear-negative.
