Hasina's Story
Garment factory worker Hasina did not expect to contract tuberculosis, the very disease which killed her mother. Fortunately for her, she was treated through the Public Private Partnership Project (PPPP), supported by COMDIS, saving her life.
Hasina's close encounter has been featured in a six minute video on COMDIS's YouTube channel.
Ensuring good access to quality TB care is a national priority but the public sector cannot accomplish this task alone. This goal can only be achieved by diversifying the responsibilities of providing TB care through wider application of collaborative approaches between both public and private sector providers. The PPPP in Bangladesh aims to support this and also involves training factories to undertake appropriate measures to prevent tuberculosis.
The video highlights the work of the PPPP which was set up by the National Tuberculosis Control Programme, COMDIS and local NGOs in collaboration with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturer and Exporter Association (BGMEA).
The video aims to educate people about the seriousness of the disease, how it can turn potentially fatal if not properly treated and how it is being curbed through PPPP.
It was made possible by COMDIS, SEED Bangladesh and the UK's Department for International Development.

What is Tuberculosis?
Tuberculosis is one of the leading causes of death among adults in Bangladesh, killing 70,000 and infecting 300,000 people each year. According to the World Health Organisation, Bangladesh has the sixth highest cases of TB in the world. The disease spreads through the air from one person to the other. It usually affects the lungs but in some cases, spreads to other parts of the body.
